Course 1 - The Professional Practitioner Hypnotherapy Course, UK

Overview

This is the one to study if you want to go into practice, either full time or part time, as an effective Professional clinical hypnotherapist. It is possible to study just the first year course to become a competent hypnotherapist or you can take the two-year advanced course which includes psychotherapy training.

The first year course is of approximately 600 hours duration, including 150 hours of classroom study, and leads to a full Diploma qualification (DHP) with the opportunity to join four leading Hypnotherapy Organisations:

  • The Hypnotherapy Society
  • The National Council for Hypnotherapy
  • The National Council of Psychotherapists
  • The Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy

Successful completion of the advanced two-year course confers eligibility to also become a member of The Counselling and Psychotherapy Society as well as giving you a higher level of qualifications.

On this hypnosis course, you will learn not just hypnotherapy, but how to employ other effective therapeutic methodologies, too. A home study hypnotherapy course option is available, as well - very few hypnotherapy courses offer both these options.

But it's not just about gaining professional qualifications in hypnosis and hypnotherapy (and psychotherapy, if you take the advanced study option); many of our graduates are now in successful private practice - our tuition includes business advice from setting up to becoming a high-flier!

Course Detail

What does it mean to be a Professional Hypnotherapist?

If you were instrumental in helping only one other human being to change their life for the better so dramatically that they said something like: "I really didn't realise how wonderful just being alive could be!" you'd feel pretty pleased for that individual. Imagine, then, how it feels when you help not just one person, but scores, hundreds - even thousands - to that same sense of liberation and well-being.

Now, that's what you can call job satisfaction!

To be a Hypnotherapist is also to have a career for as long as you want it - there are no age limits - and to work either full or part-time as you choose. Also, you can choose your work hours to suit your lifestyle, so you can fit your new hypnotherapy career around other commitments.

No Experience Necessary

The training programme was professionally designed and written by successful UK therapist Terence Watts to give you a thorough and sound knowledge of the application of ethical clinical hypnosis and hypnotherapy, even if you have no previous experience of the field. The professional hypnotherapy qualifications you receive allow you to easily obtain professional liability insurance; we will even introduce you to insurers who will provide it.

The following subjects - and far more - are all covered in detail:

  • What hypnosis can and cannot do
  • What hypnosis is - and what it is not
  • How to have a successful professional hypnotherapy career
  • The difference between the stage hypnotist and the hypnotherapist
  • How to hypnotise almost anybody - including yourself
  • Choosing the best induction
  • How to recognise when somebody IS hypnotised
  • How to effect safe release from the hypnotic state
  • Direct and indirect therapeutic intervention
  • How to get to the the 'roots' of problems
  • An overview of Past Life Regression
  • Working with pain and physical illness
  • Dealing with stress and anxiety
  • Successful client management
  • Instant understanding of personality types
  • Working with cause, rather than effect
Lifetime Support

The 10 month hypnosis instruction course is comprehensive enough for you to be able to go successfully and competently with your new hypnotherapy career into private practice as soon as you are qualified, safe in the knowledge that you have the lifetime support of the principal and staff of the Essex Institute of Clinical hypnosis. At any time you need professional help or advice, we are here to answer your queries. And that support is completely free (some schools and colleges charge their usual session fee per hour or part hour for this service)

The tuition programme is conducted in a modular fashion and covers literally all that you need to know in order to start finding success just as soon as you are qualified. It is impossible to show you everything that is covered, so there is just an overview here.

Here is just some of what you will learn:

  • Hypnosis
Literally everything you need to know... how to induce it and how to use it effectively and safely, every time.
  • Personality
You will learn about the three main personality groups and how to recognise each one instantaneously. You will be astonished at how quickly others become 'transparent' to you... and so will your family and friends!
  • Fears, Phobias and other symptoms
How to easily tell the difference between a fear and a phobia, and why it is important; what a phobia really is; how to find the root of your client's problem fast, and how to easily assess the best method of hypnotherapy for any individual.
  • Anxiety
The dilute of fear, the root cause of most emotional difficulties; neurosis - the hard evidence of psychological conflict; anxiety and sexuality; the fight or flight reflex; the importance of discovering the Initial Sensitising Event.
  • The power of suggestion
Dealing with habits, smoking, weight control, nail-biting, exam fears/nerves, speaking in public, concentration and study, etc.; how to write and use hypnotic suggestions and posthypnotic suggestions; embedded commands and how to use them; ensuring that your suggestions 'take' - every time; limitations and contra-indicators.
  • Client management
Learn how to get it absolutely right from start to finish - every time; ensuring that every client becomes a healthy, happy and satisfied client who refers others on to you for years to come.
  • Techniques and practice
Writing your own scripts; self-hypnosis; harnessing the amazing power of visualisation; creating and using posthypnotic 'triggers'; understanding and using modalities; somnambulism; spontaneous hypnosis; suggestibility tests; twenty signs of hypnosis; how to make sure you apply exactly the right sort of hypnotic technique.
As well as all of the above, there are also detailed overviews of:

Repression theory; Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD); the obsessional personality; False Memory Syndrome; working with pain and physical illness; depression; hypnotic anaesthesia; regression styles of therapy, abreaction and catharsis; the 'fast phobia cure'; the ideo motor response; therapist burnout; selective thinking and the Conscious Critical Faculty; resistance, transference and counter-transference; how to work with grief and loss; the 'Swish' technique for rapid change... and a lot more as well!

The course includes the entire award winning 'Easy Quit Smoking Programme' from HYPNOSENSE. This programme is one of the most effective available and received the 1998 Award for Clinical Excellence from the Hypnotherapy Research Society.

When you pass the Final Examination, you will receive:

  • The 'How to Build a Successful Practice' manual from HYPNOSENSE, containing full details of how to be the most successful therapist you can be - even be a 'high flier' if you want to
  • A CD of copyright-free music for you to use as background music in the consulting room or on any tapes you make for clients or for sale, without breaching the copyright laws
  • A Graduation Pack CD which includes the entire course, as well as the transcripts of all the audio support so that you can easily run a search on your PC to find information easily and quickly!

And, of course a handsome, framed and personalised diploma for your consulting room wall.

There are four ways in which you may complete the course:

In the Classroom
Ten consecutive, monthly, intensive two-day weekend classes providing a total of 150 hours of tuition, couple with a few more hours per week of home study - a required reading list is provided along with a written course in excess of 140,000 words. There will be a requirement for two assessment essays of 1000 words to be completed, along with a half-way interim test during the course period to further assess your progress.

Personal Tutorial
You start when you want to, you see your tutor when you want to (provided you complete the required number of hours for the course). This means that you can pace the duration of the course to suit yourself and fit around other commitments.

Distance Learning (home study)
An eight module course, covering almost exactly the same subject matter as the In House programme (the analytical practice and theory modules are not available on the Distance Learning course) but allowing you to study at your leisure. Modules are normally despatched at monthly intervals; the period can be longer if you wish, though to ensure proper learning, modules will not be despatched at shorter than monthly intervals.

Combination Learning (Distance & Classroom)
With the combination study option, you will complete the same course as the In House student. The majority of study is done at home, with attendance at the Institute for two weekend classes, one on practical hypnosis and the other on analytical theory and practice. This allows a similar standard of skills as the In House student and confers a better level of written qualification than distance learning alone.

At the end of your studies, you will be able to take the final examination and if successful, will receive your diploma and graduation pack shortly afterwards.

Fees:

Course fees may be paid by cash, cheque or credit card and this course is also eligible for a Government-sponsored Career development loan. In addition, we may be able to spread the cost over a longer period than shown below - please ask for details.
