New legislation for hypnotherapy

There is NO new legislation currently active.

As at January 2010,  there is no regulation in force, though Voluntary Self Regulation of the Hypnotherapy Profession is due in 2011, via the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). The principal of this school has been closely involved in the instigation of this regulation and all students of the Essex Institute will be eligible for CNHC membership.

Many individuals at the forefront of the profession, the Principal of the Essex Institute included, are involved in the development of Professional Regulation which is designed to protect the career and livelihood of all properly-trained hypnotherapists. No single hypnotherapy organisation has been, or will ever be, appointed as 'official'.

The claims that are being made by some individuals and organisations are probably based on a misunderstanding; although there is much discussion about the need for rules concerning 'psychological therapies' no rules or criteria have yet been properly established. Currently, there is not a single body, governmental or private, which is able to state the final criteria for the professional therapist.
